As a Senior Managing Director at the Blackstone Group, the largest alternative asset investment firm in the world, Bill Mulrow raises capital for the firm’s private investment funds. While retaining his position at Blackstone Group, he agreed to put his skills and experience to work on behalf the people of New York. His acceptance of the Governor’s appointment as Chairman of the Housing Finance Agency and the State of New York Mortgage Agency puts one of the nation’s leading public-finance and investment-banking experts to work solving housing finance issues on behalf of the people of New York.
The importance of making affordable housing available to residents is one of the keys to the growth of business in New York. For that reason, Governor Cuomo selected Mulrow as Chairman of the state’s Housing Finance Agency (HFA) and the State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA). SONYMA is responsible for the development of low-interest financing options for homebuyers. HFA meets the challenge of making affordable homes available in communities throughout the state through grants to organizations for the construction, rehabilitation or preservation of housing. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to these positions through his 30-year career in finance and investment banking.
Bill Mulrow balances a highly successful full-time career as Senior Managing Director at the Blackstone Group along with his commitments as Chairman of the New York Housing Finance Agency, along with being the Chairman of Sterling Suffolk Racecourse. Opened in 1935, Suffolk Downs Racecourse remains the only thoroughbred racetrack in New England. As Chairman of the Board of Sterling Suffolk Racecourse LLC, he oversees the development and implementation of long-term planning and strategy to ensure the continued growth and success of this historic racetrack.
He does manage to find some time in his hectic schedule to spend time with his family and to enjoy leisure activities away from the frenetic pace of his private- and public-sector obligations. Besides traveling to such destinations as Paris, Vienna and Rome, Mulrow finds time to cheer for the New York Yankees, Giants, Knicks and teams at Yale University.
